Ford has postponed the launch of its next-generation F-150 gasoline/hybrid truck, with production now set for April 2028, Detroit Free Press said.

Analysts suggest that Ford's decision is a precautionary move in light of potential shifts in tariffs and regulations.

This delay could affect Ford dealers, who may need to provide additional incentives to move the current F-150 model, a report from Automotive News said.

Ford has supposedly informed suppliers that the new truck wont hit the assembly line in 2027 and will be delayed at least a year, according to Motor1 News.

The next-generation F-150 will be seen to enter production by the middle of 2028 and won’t be the only truck that has been delayed, according to the new schedule, Motor1 News said.

“F Series trucks, led by the F-150, have been the bestselling vehicles in the United States for more than 40 years and are a major profit driver for the automaker,” Detroit Free Press said.

Craned Detroit Business had first reported this delay and cited three supplier executives from different companies, according to Detroit Free Press.

According to analysts, one reason for the move is likely the significant uncertainty regarding the auto industry under the Trump administration.

As President Donald Trump proposed raising tariffs as high as 25%, this could affect prices for carmakers who import parts to make products in the U.S., Detroit Free Press said.

Sam Fiorani, vice president of global vehicle forecasting at Auto Forecast Solutions, said that this delay is unlikely due to issues with Ford’s supply chain.

Auto Forecast Solutions publishes highly regarded reports that track vehicle manufacturing trends. It regularly provides updates on production challenges, including shortages of semiconductors and microchips.

“If you have a truck that’s getting long in the tooth, it might require more incentives to get it to sell,” Fiorani said to Detroit Free Press.
